Sha'Daa: Last Call by Michael H. Hanson
Review by Stephen W. Roberts
Michael H. Hanson's Sha'Daa: Last Call, edited by Edward F. McKeown is a sure fire winner for all fans of the Sci-Fi/Dark Fantasy/Horror End-of-the-world genre of speculative fiction.
One might say an anthology so tightly woven together that it could well be a novel would be a first, which in countless ways is far from a falsity for the Sha'Daa collection.
I, for one applaud the use of a Prologue, Epilogue, and countless Interludes in between each story, as they not only progressed the book and tied together stories, but they also served as a bit of a pallet cleanser for the reader. A brief pause in a familiar place, if you will.
*Ding-Dong* Who's there? Why it's Johnny the saleman with a reoccuring offer that couldn't be refused. That, my friends, is very loosely how the cast and crew of Sha'Daa breathe life into each tale.
What's that now, ruckus in the Triple-Six Tavern? No worries&8230;except maybe from Maribel&8230;as Bak's got what you need on tap. First rounds on him.
Familiarities like Johnny the salesman, Bak and Maribel, the proprietors of the other-worldy dive bar lovingly dubbed Triple-Six Tavern is sure to not only leave the reader wanting more, but actually welcoming the collection like an old friend.
The efforts here by Michael H. Hanson, Edward F. Mckeown and then entire creative cast that brought the book to life is something that would be far from lost to the reader. This book is well written, grammatically and esthetically pleasing, and a must for the library at home, for you'll likely reach for this book more than once.
I hope everyone does enjoy, as I so thoroughly did.
This book runs like a well oiled machine; properly paced, smooth and engaging from the start. You might jump a time or two, laugh a time or two, and even momentarily pause a time or two to take it all in, but above all you will indeed buy a book or two.
Michael H. Hanson's Sha'Daa: Last Call is over-all a fine outing, an Apocalyptic thrill ride to the edge and back again that will keep you holding on till the end.
