HEINOUS by Jonathan Moon
Reviewed by Stephen W. Roberts
HEINOUS is about Gavin Wagner, an average, ordinary, ripe-from-suburbia kid mixed up with an ancient evil born in the fire at the dawn of time with an insatiable hunger for violence and dread. Heinous needs a host to do his bidding; to satiate his bloodlust for chaos and brutality: Gavin Wagner would be that host.
HEINOUS is written with a unique style and a narrative voice to fit it. Presented in the form of wet dream sequences (the bloody kind), Jonathan Moon pens a tale that not only defines himself as a writer not to be ignored, but it also serves as a shining example of the future of the genre itself.
Every author has their defining moment in literature that serves to pave the path on which they shall follow; Stephen King had Carrie, Brian Keene had The Rising, Jeremy C.Shipp had Vacation, Eric S. Brown had Bigfoot War, and Jonathan Moon has his prized possession, HEINOUS.
For me, reading HEINOUS was like being water boarded with chocolate milk; you may not quite understand what's happening to you at first, but it will ultimately leave you feeling full, refreshed and euphoric.
Some writers lead you down the rabbit hole, but Mr. Moon does so with threats of your well-being and doesn't let you go until he's finished with you.
Jonathan Moon pulls no punches—if anything he sneaks a few below the belt—in a book packed from cover to cover with carnage, mayhem and a couple things that will make you pause to process what you just witnessed. HEINOUS is like a massive car wreck, making rubberneckers of us all.
I highly recommend HEINOUS for any and all horror fans, but I also warn you ahead of time, HEINOUS will change you.
