Elixirs of Life

Elixirs of Life:

priceless and usually found

hidden inside grandfather clocks.

Liquid in a tiny glass vial

from which life is extended,

health ensured,

and death delayed--

but at a hidden cost.

A cost for others to give.

Elixirs of Life:

distinguishable by

mist and essence stirring within,

sweetness tenfold of honey,

soothing fragrance weary of other smells.

The last of the nectar of the Gods

found on the Earth.

With just one sip

a extra day is gained.

A glass

a week.

A bottle

a month.

A continuous supply--

an entire lifetime.

Yet if drank enough,

liquid meant for other lips,

disrupts balance

of mortal plane,

life and death two pans of a scale

needing equal weight.
