The Last Shell

I descended into the strange sea, a pastel

gray. Only the muted sound of fine bubbles

of an ancient nautilus kneeling inside

its chambers before the final extinction.

I saw the last gold shimmering of the lost

rays from the dying sun reflecting on its shell.
